Third Floor

Now to the 3rd floor...the hallway you'll notice the marble and terrazzo floors and the pilaster pilars...

Due to the high ceiling of the courtroom on the second floor, there is such space lost on the thrid floor.  Called the upper part of the courtroom.

At the East end of the hall is the Grand Jury room, the men's toilet and the office of the Postal Inspector.  Next were the Army recruiting service and the Bureau of Animal industry.  In more recent years the Farm Home Administration service located here.  Also on the third floor was the Devils Lake District land office in the first years of this building.

The dental equipment of the late Dr. T.E. McLean, Devils Lake dentist for many years, is in permanent display in the Collector of Internal Revenue room on the 3rd floor. Information from Dr. Ruger, who was a Fort Totten surgeon and who played cards with General Custer.

The contract for completion of this Federal building is dated March 31, 1910.  The building was opened April 2, 1910 to public inspection all that day.  Sunday April 3, 1910 the Post Office was moved in and business continued therein from April 4, 1910 to November 19, 1977.
