Halloween Night at 7:00 P.M.; Old Post Office in Devils Lake, 502 4th St.
Ghost story telling was great! Many ghouls and gobblins came out on Halloween night and heard about our ghost in residence...
Theresa Leiphon presented in the dark and scary court room the story of our famous spirit
here in the museum. Lillian Wineman...
The staff presented their statements of eerie sounds, whisperings, footsteps, crashes, doors closing and even someone who had the blinds pulled open and looking down on the parking lot from the second story level in the back of the building. The Devils Lake Police were called to check through the building because this staff person truly believes there is a real live person living in this building. The officer, and two of the staff members combed the building but did not find any one or any signs of a live person that would be living here. After searching through the old post office the only conclusion they could come up with was, this staff person was witness to a spirit that was watching her.
To this day people who have worked here are not sure what it is? Many things have happened through the past 100 years, could it be Offiicer Charles Sneesby's spirit who was murdered while making his rounds. His body found behind the building, or did Lillian Wineman's spirit follow her belongings here in the 1970's when her exhibit was put on display in the second floor of the old post office? Or is it a spirit that we have no idea about yet?
You come to your own conclusion!
Thanks to all you who braved the night out at the museum!
